The first of the 5 pillars of Islam is the shahadah. The shahadah is their statement of faith which says "There is no God but God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God." Muslims state this declaration of faith 5 times a day during their daily prayer rituals and it is the basis of their beliefs, being monotheistic and following after their prophet's teachings.. There is a high veneration for Muhammad.
In Pakistan there is a blasphemy law which specifically includes defaming the prophet Muhammad. The penalty for blasphemy is death. Followers of Jesus live in fear as even the accusation of blasphemy can see someone's life ruined if. Let's pray today for the believers in Karachi to not fear but to put their trust in God, for wisdom in how to talk about spiritual things with their Muslim neighbors. Pray that believers may be "shrewd as snakes and innocent as doves" to love those around them that they would be willing to share their faith no matter what the cost.
Lyari: It is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Karachi, which started out as a small fishing village. It later became an area that was know for violence, gangs, drugs and kidnappings. The Police 'cleaned up' this area a few years ago and has become more safe. Pray for true transformation and peace as people encounter Jesus in this area.
