Alawites are an off-shoot from Shia Islam, but their beliefs and practices are considerably different. They venerate Ali as a physical manifestation and have a much more liberal view of alcohol. In the Arab World, they are found mostly in Syria. President Assad of Syria and his family are Alawites.
Be exalted, God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth. For you, Lord God, are high above all the Alawites, your glory is above the heavens. Yes, you, O Lord, are on high forever more.
